Online Assessments for 100,000 Rural Students on 2G and 3G Networks
Client An education provider working with rural schools, India
Jungroo AI built an assessment engine that moved 100,000 students in rural schools to online tests. It is designed for 100,000 requests a minute and keeps working on weak, intermittent 2G and 3G connections, using local-first execution, sessions that sync safely when the network returns, and very small data payloads.
The challenge
During a fast national shift to digital learning, 100,000 students in rural schools had to take assessments online. Traffic peaks reached 100,000 requests a minute, while many students were on weak, intermittent 2G or 3G signals. Answers could not be lost when the connection dropped.
The solution
Jungroo AI built an assessment engine designed for poor networks and heavy peaks:
- Local-First Execution: Test logic and session state run on the student's device, so a slow network does not slow the test.
- Built for Peak Load: Infrastructure designed for 100,000 requests a minute, with sub-second processing.
- Safe Session Sync: Answers are queued on the device and synced when the connection returns, so tests resume without losing data.
- Low-Data Delivery: Compact binary formats and progressive loading keep data use low in poor-coverage areas.
- Lean Delivery: Built by a two-person engineering team and integrated quickly with existing mobile and web apps.
The impact
Impact
| Measure | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Students tested online | Paper or offline tests | 100,000 |
| Peak traffic | Limited by network delays | Designed for 100,000 requests a minute |
| Interrupted sessions | High drop-out | Resume without losing answers |
| Data use | Heavy | Works on 2G and 3G |
